This is a matter of social justice and dignity for those who built our society over the years, and who are now living below the poverty line.</p>",

It criticizes the fact that the federal guaranteed income supplement, the spouse's allowance and the allowance for the survivor no longer fulfill their missions to allow low-income seniors to earn a reasonable living. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"2093569\" data-originallang=\"fr\">The petitioners are calling on the House to implement automatic enrollment for the guaranteed income supplement, for the spouse's allowance and for the allowance for the survivor, to increase the guaranteed income supplement by $110 per month for seniors living alone, and to increase the monthly allowance for the survivor by $199. It also calls on the government to implement full and unconditional retroactivity, and to extend by six months the guaranteed income supplement and the spouse's allowance upon the death of one of the beneficiaries in the couple. </p>",

I add my petitions to those presented by the two members who spoke previously. All these petitions call for automatic registration for the guaranteed income supplement, the spouse's allowance and the survivor's allowance; improvements in the guaranteed income supplement for people who live alone; an increase in the monthly survivor's allowance; full, unconditional retroactivity; and a six-month extension of the guaranteed income supplement and the spouse's allowance when a beneficiary dies.</p>",

It also asks the federal and provincial Ministers of Health to plan and implement a nationwide clinical trial for the evaluation of venography and balloon venoplasty for the treatment of CCSVI in persons diagnosed with MS.</p>",

We want the government to bring in automatic registration for the supplement, increase the monthly benefit for people living alone by $110 and introduce full, unconditional retroactivity for the seniors who have been cheated in recent years.</p>",

"en": "<p data-HoCid=\"2093590\" data-originallang=\"en\">Mr. Speaker, my petition calls upon the Canadian government to negotiate with the United States government to reduce the United States and Canadian passport fees. The petitioners are concerned that American tourists visiting Canada are at their lowest levels since 1972. American tourism has fallen by 5 million visits in the last seven years, from 16 million in 2002 to only 11 million in 2009.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"2093591\" data-originallang=\"en\">Currently, one-half of Canadians have passports but only one-quarter of Americans have passports. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"2093592\" data-originallang=\"en\">At the recent Midwestern Legislative Conference of the Council of State Governments, attended by myself and 500 other elected representatives from 11 border states and 3 provinces, the following resolution was passed unanimously. It reads, be it:</p>\n<blockquote><p data-HoCid=\"2093593\" data-originallang=\"en\"> RESOLVED, that [the] Conference calls on President Barack Obama and [the Canadian] Prime Minister...to immediately examine a reduced fee for passports to facilitate cross-border tourism; </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"2093594\" data-originallang=\"en\"> ...we encourage the governments to examine the idea of a limited time two-for-one passport renewal or new application; and be it further </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"2093595\" data-originallang=\"en\"> RESOLVED, that this resolution be submitted to appropriate federal, state and provincial officials. </p>\n</blockquote><p data-HoCid=\"2093596\" data-originallang=\"en\">To be a fair process, passport fees must be reduced on both sides of the border. Therefore, the petitioners call upon the government to work with the American government to examine the mutual reduction in passport fees to facilitate tourism and, finally, promote a limited time, two-for-one passport renewal or new application fee on a mutual basis with the United States.</p>",

Motion M-300, which I tabled in the House and which was adopted by the majority of elected members\u2014only the Conservatives were opposed\u2014proposed this same idea. The Conservative government needs to do something quickly for seniors, who built today's society.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"2093598\" data-originallang=\"fr\">I would like to draw attention to the fine work being done in my riding by the Richelieu-Yamaska region of FADOQ and by Mr. Leblanc and his members. "en": "<p data-HoCid=\"2093599\" data-originallang=\"en\">Mr. Speaker, I have a petition from citizens across many communities and all walks of life who wish Parliament to know that they genuinely support and value the contributions of our veterans and that they regard a veteran as a veteran regardless in which deployment or where an individual may have served. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"2093600\" data-originallang=\"en\">The petitioners join the veterans ombudsman and General Walter Natynczyk in condemning the new Veterans Charter and the Department of Veterans Affairs for creating barriers to serving Canadian veterans.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"2093601\" data-originallang=\"en\">The petitioners also demand that existing services, such as veterans hospitals, be mandated to serve modern-day veterans, including the more than 200,000 members of the armed forces who have served in peacekeeping missions since the Korean war.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"2093602\" data-originallang=\"en\">The petitioners want there to be a full hearing in the House of Commons in response to the issues of special care, pensions, programs, services and the preservation of an independent Department of Veterans Affairs; and that Parliament act to ensure that veterans and their families receive the supports they have been promised and to which they are entitled as members of the armed forces, past, present and future.</p>",
"fr": "<p data-HoCid=\"2093599\" data-originallang=\"en\">Monsieur le Pr\u00e9sident, j'ai ici une p\u00e9tition sign\u00e9e par des Canadiens de tous les horizons et de diverses collectivit\u00e9s qui veulent que le Parlement sache qu'ils appuient et appr\u00e9cient v\u00e9ritablement la contribution de nos anciens combattants et qu'ils consid\u00e8rent qu'un ancien combattant est un ancien combattant ind\u00e9pendamment de la mission \u00e0 laquelle il a particip\u00e9 o\u00f9 de l'endroit o\u00f9 il a servi.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"2093600\" data-originallang=\"en\">Les p\u00e9titionnaires joignent leurs voix \u00e0 celles de l'ombudsman des v\u00e9t\u00e9rans et du g\u00e9n\u00e9ral Walter Natynczyk et condamnent la nouvelle Charte des anciens combattants et le minist\u00e8re des Anciens Combattants, qui ont cr\u00e9\u00e9 des obstacles aux services offerts aux anciens combattants canadiens. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"2093601\" data-originallang=\"en\"> Les p\u00e9titionnaires r\u00e9clament \u00e9galement que les services actuellement offerts, notamment par les h\u00f4pitaux pour anciens combattants, soient adapt\u00e9s \u00e0 la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 des anciens combattants d'aujourd'hui, dont font partie les quelque 200 000 membres des forces arm\u00e9es qui ont servi dans le cadre de missions de maintien de la paix depuis la guerre de Cor\u00e9e. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"2093602\" data-originallang=\"en\">Les p\u00e9titionnaires souhaitent que la Chambre des communes proc\u00e8de \u00e0 un examen approfondi des questions entourant les pensions, les soins sp\u00e9ciaux, les programmes, les services et le maintien d'un minist\u00e8re des Anciens Combattants ind\u00e9pendant. Ils souhaitent aussi que le Parlement s'engage \u00e0 ce que les anciens combattants et leur famille obtiennent le soutien qu'on leur a promis et qu'ils m\u00e9ritent en tant que membres des forces arm\u00e9es, pass\u00e9s, pr\u00e9sents ou \u00e0 venir.</p>"
