"en": "<p data-HoCid=\"9121469\" data-originallang=\"en\">Mr. Speaker, it is always an honour to rise in the House and speak on behalf of the people of Elmwood\u2014Transcona. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"9121470\" data-originallang=\"en\">The Liberal government's soft-on-crime ideology has failed. Since the Liberals took office, violent crime is up 54%, sexual assaults are up 75%, and extortion has skyrocketed an astounding 330%. In major Canadian cities like Brampton, Surrey, Vancouver and Calgary, crimes like extortion are out of control. Canadians want action, not more speeches and not more press releases.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"9121471\" data-originallang=\"en\">The Liberal government must immediately repeal its catch-and-release laws, Bill <a data-HoCid=\"11482450\" href=\"/bills/44-1/C-5/\" title=\"An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act\">C\u20135</a> and Bill <a data-HoCid=\"9745407\" href=\"/bills/42-1/C-75/\" title=\"An Act to amend the Criminal Code, the Youth Criminal Justice Act and other Acts and to make consequential amendments to other Acts\">C\u201375</a>, and put an end to the revolving-door justice system. It must also restore and strengthen mandatory jail time, so extortionists face real consequences for their crimes rather than a slap on the wrist.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"9121472\" data-originallang=\"en\">Conservatives have put forward a comprehensive plan to protect our communities. Last year, the member for <a data-HoCid=\"317835\" href=\"/politicians/arpan-khanna/\" title=\"Arpan Khanna\">Oxford</a> introduced the jail not bail act, to reverse the disastrous Liberal bail policies created through Bill <a data-HoCid=\"11482450\" href=\"/bills/44-1/C-5/\" title=\"An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act\">C\u20135</a> and Bill <a data-HoCid=\"9745407\" href=\"/bills/42-1/C-75/\" title=\"An Act to amend the Criminal Code, the Youth Criminal Justice Act and other Acts and to make consequential amendments to other Acts\">C\u201375</a>, while the member for <a data-HoCid=\"318010\" href=\"/politicians/tim-uppal/\" title=\"Tim Uppal\">Edmonton Gateway</a> introduced Bill <a data-HoCid=\"12876247\" href=\"/bills/44-1/C-381/\" title=\"An Act to amend the Criminal Code (extortion)\">C-381</a>, the protection against extortion act, which the Liberals voted down, choosing to put criminals over communities.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"9121473\" data-originallang=\"en\"> The Liberal bail reform bill, Bill <a data-HoCid=\"13679516\" href=\"/bills/45-1/C-14/\" title=\"An Act to amend the Criminal Code, the Youth Criminal Justice Act and the National Defence Act (bail and sentencing)\">C-14</a>, does not remove the principle of restraint, which has caused the revolving-door criminal justice system. This falls short of the comprehensive bail reform that was promised to Canadians in the last election. Even so, we have offered to fast-track the bill so Canadians can get some much-needed relief. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"9121474\" data-originallang=\"en\">While all this is happening on our streets, the Liberals have chosen to spend $750 million to target law-abiding gun owners. They are continually choosing ideology over facts and political influence over public safety.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"9121475\" data-originallang=\"en\"> Will the Liberal government actually take the concerns of our communities seriously and ensure that career criminals and repeat violent offenders get jail, not bail? </p>",
