Dr. No\u00ebl Kinsella, 42nd Speaker of the Senate, who passed away last December. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"8171508\" data-originallang=\"en\">Dr. Kinsella was a human rights advocate, scholar and parliamentarian. With his passing, New Brunswick has lost one of its greatest sons. Dr. Kinsella was renowned for his brilliance, decency and fairness. He spent 41 years as a faculty member at my alma mater, St. Thomas University.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"8171509\" data-originallang=\"en\">Prime Minister Mulroney nominated Dr. Kinsella for the Senate in 1990. He was selected by Prime Minister Harper to serve as Speaker of the Senate in 2006, a role he held until his retirement in 2014. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"8171510\" data-originallang=\"en\">While he is well known for his work, the love he and his wife shared was remarkable. Our hearts are with Ann.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"8171511\" data-originallang=\"en\">No\u00ebl Kinsella has earned his rest. He was a champion of human rights and principled public policy, a staunch adherent to parliamentary procedure and the rule of law and a man whose quiet dignity spoke volumes.</p>",
