        "en": "<p data-HoCid=\"5529228\" data-originallang=\"en\">Mr. Speaker, it is a great pleasure to address the member for <a data-HoCid=\"213990\" href=\"/politicians/peter-van-loan/\" title=\"Peter Van Loan\">York\u2014Simcoe</a>. I know he did not want a whole lot of intervention at this point because he is kind of a soft guy and did not want to get emotional today. We will try to step back from that.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"5529229\" data-originallang=\"en\">I very much want to thank him for sharing that history of his family and giving his colleagues in the House that reflection back. That is what shapes all of us parliamentarians and people. I thought it provided tremendous insight into how he came here and grew and came to the light, as he said, although some of us may talk about that on division.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"5529230\" data-originallang=\"en\">I have had the opportunity to work with him in the House for 14 years, and on a number of different issues in a couple of different committees. When he was House leader, I was the whip of the official opposition, and I can say with great certainty that although his reputation was one of toughness and hardness, without question he was fair as well. When we look at where the tone of the conversation in politics has gone, especially south of the border, but in some cases in this country too, he was never one to get personal. He was smart and tough on the issues and tactics, but he would never get personal. He was always disciplined in that regard, and he will always carry the respect of anyone who has watched and worked with him.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"5529231\" data-originallang=\"en\">I know he will be missed by his caucus colleagues and by the people from York\u2014Simcoe whom he has represented. He may not be missed as much by the government members, but this is only because he was effective in his job.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"5529232\" data-originallang=\"en\">I have no questions on behalf of our side, but I just want to comment that when he and his wife Cheryl ride off into the sunset, I know this will not be the end of it. This a family thing, and when all of us make that decision, it will be based on what our family has been through over the years. We know that the member's family has supported him and continues to support him, and the member should know that he has earned his chops in this place. On behalf of our party, we want to thank the member for his service to this country.</p>",

Le d\u00e9put\u00e9 nous a fourni plein de d\u00e9tails sur ce qui l'a pouss\u00e9 \u00e0 devenir d\u00e9put\u00e9 et sur la fa\u00e7on dont il s'est \u00e9panoui et a brill\u00e9 \u00e0 la Chambre, comme il l'a dit, bien que certains d'entre nous puissent diverger d'opinion \u00e0 ce sujet.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"5529230\" data-originallang=\"en\"> J\u2019ai pu travailler avec lui \u00e0 la Chambre pendant 14 ans, sur diff\u00e9rents enjeux et au sein de divers comit\u00e9s. J\u2019\u00e9tais le whip de l\u2019opposition officielle quand il \u00e9tait le leader du gouvernement \u00e0 la Chambre et je peux dire avec la plus grande certitude que, malgr\u00e9 sa r\u00e9putation de duret\u00e9 et de t\u00e9nacit\u00e9, il \u00e9tait ind\u00e9niablement juste aussi. Lorsque nous voyons ce qu\u2019est devenu le ton de la conversation politique, particuli\u00e8rement au sud de la fronti\u00e8re, mais parfois dans notre pays aussi, il ne s\u2019est jamais livr\u00e9 \u00e0 des attaques personnelles. Il \u00e9tait astucieux et tenace avec les enjeux et les tactiques, mais il ne se livrait jamais \u00e0 des attaques personnelles. Il a toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 disciplin\u00e9 \u00e0 cet \u00e9gard et il aura toujours le respect de quiconque l\u2019a observ\u00e9 et a travaill\u00e9 avec lui.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"5529231\" data-originallang=\"en\"> Je sais qu\u2019il va manquer \u00e0 ses coll\u00e8gues du caucus et aux gens d'York\u2014Simcoe qu\u2019il a repr\u00e9sent\u00e9s. Il ne manquera peut-\u00eatre pas autant aux d\u00e9put\u00e9s minist\u00e9riels, mais c\u2019est seulement parce qu\u2019il travaillait efficacement.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"5529232\" data-originallang=\"en\"> Je n\u2019ai pas de questions \u00e0 poser au nom des d\u00e9put\u00e9s de mon parti, mais je tiens seulement \u00e0 dire que, lorsqu\u2019il s\u2019\u00e9loignera dans le soleil couchant en compagnie de sa femme, Cheryl, je sais que ce ne sera pas la fin de l\u2019histoire. C\u2019est une question familiale et, quand nous serons tous appel\u00e9s \u00e0 prendre cette d\u00e9cision, elle sera bas\u00e9e sur ce que notre famille aura v\u00e9cu au fil des ans. Nous savons que la famille du d\u00e9put\u00e9 l\u2019a appuy\u00e9 et continue de l\u2019appuyer, et il devrait savoir qu\u2019il a d\u00e9montr\u00e9 sa vaillance dans cette enceinte.
