"en": "<p data-HoCid=\"5265322\" data-originallang=\"en\">Mr. Chair, in the context of reforms to the justice system, I want to recognize the work the member has done with his private member's bill on FASD. I was pleased to support the bill. The previous Conservative member for Yukon had done a lot of work on this issue as well. It has been a non-partisan issue. Hopefully we will see some progress at some point with respect to recognizing the role that kind of situation can play in the justice system.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"5265323\" data-originallang=\"en\">One of the other issues we need to be sensitive to in the justice system is judicial independence. At the same time, we need to look at issues within the system and strengthen it.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"5265324\" data-originallang=\"en\">Some people have raised concerns about comments that have been made by politicians with respect to a court decision in a context where nobody really knows what happened inside the jury room and what those deliberations were. The jury is not in a position to necessarily defend the reasons for its decision.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"5265325\" data-originallang=\"en\">Could the member comment on the issue of judicial independence and whether he thinks the comments made by the <a data-HoCid=\"214296\" href=\"/politicians/justin-trudeau/\" title=\"Justin Trudeau\">Prime Minister</a> and the <a data-HoCid=\"214321\" href=\"/politicians/jody-wilson-raybould/\" title=\"Jody Wilson-Raybould\">justice minister</a> were appropriate in that context?</p>",
