St\u00e9phanie Leclerc is the mother of Sarah, a nine-year old girl with Phelan-McDermid syndrome.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"5586791\" data-originallang=\"fr\"> Phelan-McDermid syndrome is a rare genetic condition characterized by intellectual disability, delayed or absent speech, symptoms of autism spectrum disorder, low muscle tone, motor delays and epilepsy.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"5586792\" data-originallang=\"fr\">It is important to raise awareness and educate people about this disorder.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"5586793\" data-originallang=\"fr\">I wish to inform the House that October 22 has been designated international Phelan-McDermid syndrome awareness day.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"5586794\" data-originallang=\"fr\">I hope this awareness-raising initiative will lead to advances that will help improve life for Sarah and all those with this disorder and their loved ones.</p>",
