The majority of British Columbians oppose the project, including the residents of Kitimat, who rejected it in a plebiscite.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3799960\" data-originallang=\"en\">The <a data-HoCid=\"78738\" href=\"/politicians/stephen-harper/\" title=\"Stephen Harper\">Prime Minister</a> once urged the province of Alberta to resist heavy-handed tactics from a hostile federal government.
