To mark the long and rich history of Canadians of Asian heritage, I will be hosting an event in Scarborough at Splendid China this Sunday.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3689334\" data-originallang=\"en\">While we celebrate this month, we are reminded that many Canadians of Asian descent have been waiting for years to reunite with their loved ones here in Canada. Family reunification must be a central priority in Canada's immigration system, something we should fix so families can celebrate together next May.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3689335\" data-originallang=\"en\">While we celebrate, we will also remember the 100th anniversary of the <em>Komagata Maru</em> tragedy. This tragedy remains a dark chapter in our collective history. We cannot ignore the mistakes of our past. We cannot ignore the history of discriminatory policies that led to this incident. We believe an apology is long overdue and we hope that this month Canadians will get what they have asked for, an official apology from the <a data-HoCid=\"78738\" href=\"/politicians/stephen-harper/\" title=\"Stephen Harper\">Prime Minister</a> and the government for a historic wrong we have all come to know as the <em>Komagata Maru</em> tragedy.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3689336\" data-originallang=\"en\">By voting against the NDP motion for an official apology two years ago, justice was denied again by the Conservative government.</p>",

La r\u00e9unification des familles doit \u00eatre une des priorit\u00e9s du r\u00e9gime d'immigration canadien. Il faut am\u00e9liorer les choses \u00e0 ce chapitre afin que, en mai prochain, ces familles puissent c\u00e9l\u00e9brer ensemble.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3689335\" data-originallang=\"en\">Ce Mois du patrimoine asiatique correspond \u00e9galement au centenaire de la trag\u00e9die du <em>Komagata Maru</em>, sombre chapitre de notre histoire commune. Il ne faut pas fermer les yeux sur les erreurs du pass\u00e9. Il ne faut pas fermer les yeux sur les politiques historiquement discriminatoires qui ont caus\u00e9 cet incident. Nous sommes d'avis qu'il est plus que temps d'adresser des excuses \u00e0 ce sujet. Esp\u00e9rons que, ce mois-ci, les Canadiens obtiendront enfin ce qu'ils r\u00e9clament, c'est-\u00e0-dire des excuses officielles de la part du <a data-HoCid=\"78738\" href=\"/politicians/stephen-harper/\" title=\"Stephen Harper\">premier ministre</a> et du gouvernement pour l'injustice historique que nous connaissons tous aujourd'hui comme \u00e9tant la trag\u00e9die du <em>Komagata Maru</em>.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3689336\" data-originallang=\"en\">Le refus du gouvernement conservateur, il y a deux ans, d'appuyer la motion n\u00e9o-d\u00e9mocrate r\u00e9clamant des excuses officielles constitue un \u00e9ni\u00e8me d\u00e9ni de justice.</p>"
