"en": "<p data-HoCid=\"3633190\" data-originallang=\"en\">Mr. Speaker, it is an honour to rise in the House to thank a colleague, a friend, and a fellow member of a community that I am proud to belong to, the Greek Canadian community.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633191\" data-originallang=\"en\">The news that my colleague will be resigning today came as a surprise to me. Only a few short days ago, we talked about common interests. We talked, in fact, on March 25, a day that is important to us both and to many Greeks in Canada and around the world.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633192\" data-originallang=\"en\">Even so, here we are today and I rise in the House on behalf of my colleagues in the New Democratic Party to thank our colleague for his service and his commitment to his constituents and to our country.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633193\" data-originallang=\"en\"> Regardless of political differences, I stand here to acknowledge the tremendous work done by the member for <a data-HoCid=\"170666\" href=\"/politicians/jim-karygiannis/\" title=\"Jim Karygiannis\">Scarborough\u2014Agincourt</a> and to recognize the tremendous commitment and service he has given to our country.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633194\" data-originallang=\"en\">I want to especially acknowledge the way that he has blazed the trail, when it comes to issues of human rights that are important to many people who live in the diasporas in Canada. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633195\" data-originallang=\"en\">I want to recognize his work in putting forward the private member's bill that finally recognized the death of 1.5 million Armenians as a genocide.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633196\" data-originallang=\"en\">I want to thank him for his work around the importance of recognizing the Greek province of Macedonia as being an integral part of the Hellenic Republic.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633197\" data-originallang=\"en\">I want to recognize his work in ensuring that Canada's trade interests were not exercised at the expense of the security of the Greek people, or anyone in our world.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633198\" data-originallang=\"en\">I want to recognize the way he has been a strong champion. I have had the honour of working with him on the issue of justice for Cypriots and recognizing that the issues faced by Cypriots, no matter what side they live on, are issues that Canada can help address and that there must be justice for Cypriots today.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633199\" data-originallang=\"en\">I want to particularly recognize the way in which he has been an important force in a very important community in Canada. Again, despite our political differences, I have only appreciated the strong voice he has been for Greek Canadians, for Canadians of all backgrounds, including Armenian Canadians, Kurdish Canadians, and others, in the fight for human rights and recognition.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633200\" data-originallang=\"en\">We are fortunate to live in a country like Canada that has been built by many. Canada only becomes stronger when we recognize the importance of recognizing everyone's human rights at home and abroad.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633201\" data-originallang=\"en\">I want to thank my colleague, the member for <a data-HoCid=\"170666\" href=\"/politicians/jim-karygiannis/\" title=\"Jim Karygiannis\">Scarborough\u2014Agincourt</a>, for being a tireless voice for human rights, for the diasporas in Canada, and for showing that children of immigrants and those born abroad can become not just great Canadians but also leaders and take our country forward in ways our parents could only be proud of.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633202\" data-originallang=\"en\">I want to thank him very much.</p>\n<p class=\"procedural\" data-HoCid=\"3633203\">[<em>Member spoke in Greek</em>]</p>",

En fait, nous avons parl\u00e9 du 25 mars, une journ\u00e9e importante pour nous et pour bien des Grecs du Canada et de partout dans le monde.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633192\" data-originallang=\"en\">Et voil\u00e0 qu'aujourd'hui je prends la parole pour remercier mon coll\u00e8gue, au nom du Nouveau Parti d\u00e9mocratique, de son d\u00e9vouement et des services qu'il a rendus \u00e0 ses \u00e9lecteurs et au Canada. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633193\" data-originallang=\"en\">Quelles que soient nos divergences d'opinion en politique, je f\u00e9licite le d\u00e9put\u00e9 de <a data-HoCid=\"170666\" href=\"/politicians/jim-karygiannis/\" title=\"Jim Karygiannis\">Scarborough\u2014Agincourt</a> de son travail remarquable et je le remercie de son extraordinaire d\u00e9vouement et des \u00e9normes services qu'il a rendus au Canada.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633194\" data-originallang=\"en\">Je tiens en particulier \u00e0 souligner la mani\u00e8re dont il a trac\u00e9 la voie en ce qui a trait aux enjeux relatifs aux droits de la personne qui sont chers aux yeux de bien des membres des diasporas au Canada.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633195\" data-originallang=\"en\">Je tiens \u00e0 saluer son travail dans le projet de loi d\u2019initiative parlementaire qui a enfin reconnu comme un g\u00e9nocide la mort de 1,5 million d\u2019Arm\u00e9niens.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633196\" data-originallang=\"en\">Je souhaite le remercier de son travail relativement \u00e0 l\u2019importance de reconna\u00eetre la province grecque de Mac\u00e9doine comme faisant partie int\u00e9grante de la R\u00e9publique hell\u00e9nique.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633197\" data-originallang=\"en\">Je tiens \u00e0 signaler son travail en vue de s'assurer que la promotion des int\u00e9r\u00eats commerciaux du Canada ne se fasse pas au d\u00e9triment de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 du peuple grec ou de toute autre population dans le monde.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633198\" data-originallang=\"en\">Je tiens \u00e0 reconna\u00eetre l'ardent d\u00e9fenseur qu'il \u00e9tait. J\u2019ai eu l\u2019honneur de travailler avec lui sur la question de la justice pour les Chypriotes et sur la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 de reconna\u00eetre que les probl\u00e8mes avec lesquels les Chypriotes sont aux prises, peu importe o\u00f9 ils vivent, sont des probl\u00e8mes que le Canada peut aider \u00e0 r\u00e9gler et qu\u2019il faut rendre justice aujourd\u2019hui aux Chypriotes.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633199\" data-originallang=\"en\">Je veux en particulier souligner la mani\u00e8re dont il a \u00e9t\u00e9 une force importante au sein d'une communaut\u00e9 tr\u00e8s importante au Canada. Encore une fois, malgr\u00e9 nos divergences politiques, je suis reconnaissante de la voix forte qu\u2019il a \u00e9t\u00e9 pour les Canadiens d\u2019origine grecque et les Canadiens de toute origine, y compris les Canadiens d\u2019origines arm\u00e9nienne, kurde et autres, en ce qui a trait au respect des droits de la personne et \u00e0 leur reconnaissance.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633200\" data-originallang=\"en\">Nous sommes choy\u00e9s de vivre dans un pays comme le Canada qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 construit par plusieurs communaut\u00e9s. Le Canada en sort gagnant lorsque nous comprenons l\u2019importance de reconna\u00eetre les droits de la personne de tout le monde au pays et \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633201\" data-originallang=\"en\">Je tiens \u00e0 remercier mon coll\u00e8gue, le d\u00e9put\u00e9 de <a data-HoCid=\"170666\" href=\"/politicians/jim-karygiannis/\" title=\"Jim Karygiannis\">Scarborough\u2014Agincourt</a>, d\u2019avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 une voix infatigable pour le respect des droits de la personne et les diasporas au Canada et d\u2019avoir d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que les enfants d\u2019immigrants et ceux n\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger peuvent devenir non seulement d\u2019excellents Canadiens, mais aussi des leaders et faire progresser le pays d\u2019une mani\u00e8re dont nos parents ne pourraient qu\u2019\u00eatre fiers.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"3633202\" data-originallang=\"en\">Je le remercie \u00e9norm\u00e9ment.</p>\n<p class=\"procedural\" data-HoCid=\"3633203\">[<em>La d\u00e9put\u00e9e s\u2019exprime en grec.</em>]</p>"
