"en": "<p data-HoCid=\"235108\" data-originallang=\"en\">Mr. Speaker, this week the Canadian Islamic Congress awarded its first ever Captain Nichola Goddard Scholarship in Peace and Conflict Studies. This honour was awarded to Ahmad Syed, a graduate student at the University of Ottawa, who is concentrating his studies on conflict resolution and conflict avoidance.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"235109\" data-originallang=\"en\">On May 17, 2006, Captain Nichola Goddard died in combat during fighting in the Panjwai district of Khandahar province while serving as a forward observation officer with the 1st Regiment of the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"235110\" data-originallang=\"en\">Captain Goddard was the 17th Canadian to be killed in Afghanistan since 2002 and the first woman to be killed in combat in Canadian military history.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"235111\" data-originallang=\"en\">The Captain's father, Dr. Tim Goddard, said:</p>\n<blockquote><p data-HoCid=\"235112\" data-originallang=\"en\"> I believe that this work will help further the hopes and dreams held by Nichola, that peaceful resolution of conflict can be achieved and thus prepare the way for the reconstruction of civil society and the establishment of stable nation states. </p>\n</blockquote>",
