        "en": "<p data-HoCid=\"1728162\" data-originallang=\"en\"> Thank you, Mr. Chair. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"1728163\" data-originallang=\"en\">I feel the love and I appreciate it, Mr. Cannis. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"1728164\" data-originallang=\"en\">I have sat here attentively and listened for almost the last hour and a half and at numerous other meetings on the specific issue of Canada-Colombia. I had the good pleasure to travel with some of my colleagues to Colombia just over a year ago. It was definitely an eye-opening experience, and an honour to have the opportunity to meet a president of a country who is so highly respected. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"1728165\" data-originallang=\"en\">He came to Canada and sat in front of a committee. I think it's the first time a head of state has ever sat in front of a committee to answer, head on, any questions. He's not afraid to answer anything. I really admire leadership. Whatever you believe from a political perspective, it speaks highly of the gentleman who's trying to reform the country.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"1728166\" data-originallang=\"en\">There's one observation I have. Connie Watson is a CBC reporter, the Latin American correspondent, who travelled with us one day when we went to the rural area and saw first-hand some of the poverty and almost inhumane situations people are living in. And speaking with the individuals with the UN there and asking whether they thought this is the right direction or keep the status quo, the consensus all across was that a rising tide lifts all boats to give them an opportunity and give them a chance to better themselves. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"1728167\" data-originallang=\"en\">I just ask you, gentlemen, in closing, then, sitting here today, in my position\u2014and I heard the words \u201cmissed opportunity\u201d\u2014what closing comments would you like to reiterate to this committee as we try to get this through? As a taxpayer and a citizen, I just sit here appalled at the waste of time and money, and we see the opportunities for Canadian businesses to create jobs and stimulate the economy not only here but globally in this global economic crisis. Maybe you can help us further this and move the ball over the goal line.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"1728168\" data-originallang=\"en\">Thank you.</p>",

Je crois que c'\u00e9tait la premi\u00e8re fois qu'un chef d'\u00c9tat comparaissait devant un comit\u00e9 pour r\u00e9pondre, sans d\u00e9tour, aux questions qu'on avait \u00e0 lui poser. Aucune question ne lui fait peur. J'admire beaucoup son leadership. Peu importe notre all\u00e9geance politique, on ne peut que respecter cet homme qui tente de r\u00e9former son pays.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"1728166\" data-originallang=\"en\">J'ai un commentaire \u00e0 formuler. La journaliste Connie Watson, qui est la correspondante de la CBC en Am\u00e9rique latine, nous a accompagn\u00e9s une journ\u00e9e alors que nous nous rendions dans une zone rurale. Nous avons pu voir de nos propres yeux la pauvret\u00e9 et les conditions quasi inhumaines dans laquelle vit la population. Quand nous avons parl\u00e9 aux repr\u00e9sentants des Nations Unies l\u00e0-bas, nous leur avons demand\u00e9 s'ils pensaient que nous \u00e9tions sur la bonne voie ou s'il fallait garder le statu quo. Ils nous ont tous r\u00e9pondu qu'une mar\u00e9e montante soul\u00e8ve tous les bateaux, et qu'il fallait leur donner la chance de s'am\u00e9liorer. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"1728167\" data-originallang=\"en\">Messieurs, j'ai entendu quelqu'un dire qu'on allait passer \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 d'une belle occasion, alors je vous demanderais quels sont les messages que vous voulez r\u00e9it\u00e9rer \u00e0 ce comit\u00e9, tandis que nous tentons de faire progresser ce dossier? En tant que contribuable et citoyen, je suis constern\u00e9 de voir qu'on gaspille autant d'argent et d'\u00e9nergie, car les entreprises canadiennes auraient l'occasion de cr\u00e9er des emplois et de stimuler l'\u00e9conomie, non seulement ici, mais aussi \u00e0 l'\u00e9chelle mondiale, en ce temps de crise \u00e9conomique.
