I'm normally not a member of this committee, but it's really timely. Scams, online fraud and things like that are happening in my riding.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"9439475\" data-originallang=\"en\"> We just did a community event about online fraud. We worked with our local Affinity Credit Union, which brought in their banking specialists. We brought in the RCMP\u2014or city police in this case. We limited the audience to 120 people. We could have had 300 people in that room talking about scams they faced either online or not online.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"9439476\" data-originallang=\"en\"> One big thing the police said is a limiting factor is getting information out to people of the existing scam that's going around the community at a point in time. For example, in Prince Albert, there was a scam going on where little Johnny, my grandson Johnny, got arrested because he did something. It was not bad, and it wasn't his fault, but someone had to pay his bail. They're knocking on the door and saying, \u201cWe're here to collect Johnny's bail money.\u201d Seniors are very believing and trusting people, especially when somebody is dressed nicely and have a uniform. They're getting caught.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"9439477\" data-originallang=\"en\"> These 120 people were made aware of that scam, and they went to coffee row that week and talked about that scam with all their friends. Now everybody in Prince Albert knows the scam that was going around Prince Albert that week.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"9439478\" data-originallang=\"en\">I'm curious. You talk about Meta taking down scams as you come across them. Do you do a proactive disclosure saying, \u201cThis is a scam\u201d and put it out there so people can see what types of scams are out there?</p>",

Par exemple, \u00e0 Prince Albert, on faisait croire aux gens que le petit Johnny, leur petit-fils, Johnny, s'\u00e9tait fait arr\u00eater, car il avait commis un d\u00e9lit. Ce n'\u00e9tait pas grave, et ce n'\u00e9tait pas de sa faute, mais quelqu'un devait payer le cautionnement. Les arnaqueurs venaient frapper \u00e0 la porte en disant \u00ab nous sommes ici pour r\u00e9cup\u00e9rer le paiement du cautionnement de Johnny \u00bb. Les a\u00een\u00e9s sont des gens confiants, surtout \u00e0 l'\u00e9gard d'une personne bien habill\u00e9e qui porte un uniforme. Ils tombent dans le pi\u00e8ge. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"9439477\" data-originallang=\"en\">Donc, ces 120 personnes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 inform\u00e9es de l'escroquerie, et elles sont all\u00e9es en parler avec leurs amis, autour d'un caf\u00e9, cette semaine. D\u00e9sormais, tout le monde \u00e0 Prince Albert est au courant de l'escroquerie qui avait eu lieu, cette semaine\u2011l\u00e0. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"9439478\" data-originallang=\"en\">Je suis curieux. Vous dites que Meta \u00e9liminait les escroqueries \u00e0 mesure qu'elles sont d\u00e9tect\u00e9es. Avez-vous une mesure de d\u00e9claration proactive? Dites-vous \u00ab ceci est une arnaque \u00bb afin que les gens soient au courant des types d'arnaques qui existent? </p>"
