"en": "<p data-HoCid=\"6336162\" data-originallang=\"en\">Thanks very much, Chair.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"6336163\" data-originallang=\"en\">Having had the opportunity this morning to review the motion from Madame Gaudreau, I'm pleased that we're considering a study of the safeguards that are in place with respect to preventing conflicts of interest in the government.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"6336164\" data-originallang=\"en\">I think in our examination, should this motion pass, we'd look very closely at the safeguards in and around the Prime Minister's Office, specifically as we have seen with respect to the awarding of the Canada student service grant contribution agreement.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"6336165\" data-originallang=\"en\">I was very disappointed with the outcome of our vote a week ago. Like many others, I reviewed the footage after the fact on that question. Of course, I was eager today to hear if there would be a request for the motion to be reconsidered and how the chair would rule, but I see that while the issue was raised, the committee was not asked to reconsider that specific motion.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"6336166\" data-originallang=\"en\">While there are elements of the motion in front of us today that would effect some of the same ends that I sought with the motion that we spent 17 hours debating in this session of Parliament, there are many more elements of it that the committee will have to consider, and specifically, as you rightly point out, Chair, that we undertake a study.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"6336167\" data-originallang=\"en\">Members of the committee will recall that this summer, when we undertook a study similar to this, the demand for witnesses placed on the committee was substantial from all parties, particularly from the government. I think there has since then been more information made available through the document released to members of the finance committee, but we also\u2014</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"6336168\" data-originallang=\"en\">I'm getting an echo. I can imagine that it's tough for other folks to listen to me. I don't like to hear myself either.</p>",

Bien entendu, j'avais h\u00e2te aujourd'hui de voir s'il y aurait une demande pour qu'on r\u00e9examine la motion et quelle serait la d\u00e9cision de la pr\u00e9sidence, mais, m\u00eame si la demande a \u00e9t\u00e9 formul\u00e9e, on n'a pas demand\u00e9 au Comit\u00e9 de r\u00e9examiner cette motion.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"6336166\" data-originallang=\"en\">M\u00eame s'il y a des \u00e9l\u00e9ments dans la motion dont nous sommes saisis aujourd'hui qui atteindraient certains des m\u00eames objectifs que je voulais atteindre avec la motion dont nous avons d\u00e9battu pendant 17 heures cette session-ci, il y a beaucoup d'autres \u00e9l\u00e9ments sur lesquels le Comit\u00e9 devra se pencher, particuli\u00e8rement, comme vous l'avez soulign\u00e9 \u00e0 juste titre, monsieur le pr\u00e9sident, la tenue d'une \u00e9tude. </p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"6336167\" data-originallang=\"en\">Les membres du Comit\u00e9 se souviendront que cet \u00e9t\u00e9, lorsque nous avons entrepris une \u00e9tude similaire, tous les partis ont souvent demand\u00e9 que des t\u00e9moins comparaissent devant le Comit\u00e9, particuli\u00e8rement le parti minist\u00e9riel. Je crois que nous avons obtenu depuis davantage d'information gr\u00e2ce au document qu'ont re\u00e7u les membres du comit\u00e9 des finances, mais nous avons aussi...</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"6336168\" data-originallang=\"en\">Il y a de l'\u00e9cho, et j'imagine qu'il est difficile pour les gens de m'\u00e9couter.
