        "en": "<p data-HoCid=\"8793081\" data-originallang=\"en\"> Thank you, Mr. Chair.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"8793082\" data-originallang=\"en\">Thank you to the witnesses.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"8793083\" data-originallang=\"en\"> I'm going to focus my questions with Mr. Bilodeau.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"8793084\" data-originallang=\"en\">Thank you, Mr. DeMarco, for being here again at the committee.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"8793085\" data-originallang=\"en\">When Mr. DeMarco was last at our committee, we talked about the gap between policies being launched and then getting results on the greenhouse gas reductions. I'm looking at this from two different angles.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"8793086\" data-originallang=\"en\">First, I've worked on electric arc furnaces in steel mills. They're massive. When you shut down an electric arc furnace, you shut down the steel mill, so with regard to the timing to work on those furnaces, sometimes you have to wait years to get into the production schedule to work on a furnace. I've also worked on the dryer kilns in concrete plants, and it's very much the same: When the kiln goes down, the plant goes down, so when we're looking at the large emitters in pillar 1, we're actually talking about getting right to the heart of their operations, and that's not an easy thing to do.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"8793087\" data-originallang=\"en\">The second part of my comments would be with regard to working with the board of directors. I've sat on the boards of international companies. The Canadian division has a Canadian managing director. It's a separate balance sheet within a larger organization. You have to ask for capital for your region. You have to get board approval for capital for your region, and then you have to expend the capital and implement the improvements that you've pitched to the board in order to get approvals.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"8793088\" data-originallang=\"en\">Between getting things through boards of directors and through production, could you talk about the real-life challenge of businesses trying to implement net-zero programs that we've put forward?</p>",

Ils sont massifs. Lorsqu'un four ne fonctionne plus, l'aci\u00e9rie se retrouve au point mort. Par cons\u00e9quent, \u00e0 propos du moment opportun pour adapter ces fours, il faut parfois attendre des ann\u00e9es avant d'en avoir un dans le calendrier de production. J'ai \u00e9galement assur\u00e9 le fonctionnement de s\u00e9choirs dans des usines de b\u00e9ton, et c'est tr\u00e8s semblable: lorsque le s\u00e9choir cesse de fonctionner, l'usine est au point mort. Donc, dans le cas des grands \u00e9metteurs au pilier 1, nous parlons de nous attaquer au c\u0153ur de leurs activit\u00e9s, et ce n'est pas une chose facile \u00e0 faire.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"8793087\" data-originallang=\"en\">La deuxi\u00e8me partie de mes observations portera sur le travail fait avec les conseils d'administration. J'ai si\u00e9g\u00e9 au conseil de soci\u00e9t\u00e9s internationales. La filiale canadienne a un directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral. Il faut demander du capital pour sa r\u00e9gion, et il faut le d\u00e9penser et apporter les am\u00e9liorations qu'on a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es au conseil afin de les faire approuver.</p>\n<p data-HoCid=\"8793088\" data-originallang=\"en\">Il faut donc passer par des conseils d'administration et la production.
